Islamabad : Pakistan has sought from India the DNA reports of Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone gunman captured during the Mumbai mayhem and the nine other terrorists killed during the assault to enable it to further its probe into the carnage, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said Thursday.
“We have requested the DNA of Kasab and the nine others (involved in the attacks),” he said at a press conference here detailing the progress in Pakistan’s probe into the Nov 26-29 Mumbai attacks that claimed the lives of more than 170 people, including 26 foreigners, and injured more than 300.
Indian High Commission officials were furnished with details of the probe even as Malik spoke.
The DNA request would form one of the 30 questions Pakistan would pose to India on the dossier it had submitted in January on the involvement of elements from this country in the Mumbai attacks and on the basis of which the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had conducted its probe.
“We want fingerprints of all dead terrorists including Kasab. We want to compare these with our data base,” Malik said, adding: “Total cooperation is requested from India. We want to smash this (terror network).
“Action (a probe) is underway in Pakistan but there are going to be questions and India must cooperate with us in providing answers,” the minister contended.
He also pointed out that the photographs “that have come to us cannot be recognised”.
Then, “one name (in the dossier) is Ali from Sialkot. It’s like John from New York and Sharma in Delhi”, the minister said, indicating the details Pakistan would seek from India.
He also said information with the FIA pointed to the presence of one of those involvement in the March 13, 2007 Samjhauta Express blast in India in the Mumbai mayhem.
“We want to know who this person is,” Malik said.
