Rajendra Jain, 55, was killed by three unidentified gunmen Friday at his Kansabel residence in the state’s Jashpur district.

Jain, a close associate of state BJP president Vishnu Deo Sai and former union minister Dilip Singh Judeo, died immediately after he was shot twice.

“All police stations have been alerted in Jashpur district and its forested border with Jharkhand state has been sealed off to track down the killers,” superintendent of police Akbar Ram Korram told IANS by telephone Sunday.

“So far we have not managed any leads in the case. The killers are yet to be identified but it is sure they will be tracked down soon,” he said.

Police suspect the hand of some local extortionists in the killing but are also not ruling out the possibility of involvement of Maoists.
