Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh’s ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have entered into a secret agreement ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress alleged Tuesday.
“Both the BSP and BJP have entered into a secret coalition to defeat Congress candidates in the elections,” state Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh told reporters here.
He alleged that Chief Minister Mayawati, who heads the BSP, was fielding her party’s Lok Sabha candidates in such a way that it would indirectly facilitate victory of BJP leaders and divide the votes that would have otherwise gone to the Congress.
For example, “to divide Congress votes in Varanasi, the BSP has fielded Mukhtar Ansari against senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi,” he said.
“From Pilbhit, the BSP has fielded Tarannum Aqil against Varun Gandhi of the BJP.”
The BSP has fielded several such candidates belonging to the minority community against senior BJP leaders as part of their tacit understanding, alleged Singh.
