Chandigarh : Being a domicile of Haryana and having achieved distinction in certain areas of public life could help you own a plot – an initiative by the government to motivate people to contribute and enrich the state’s social life.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s government has floated a policy to offer preferential allotment of residential plots to domiciles of Haryana, who have distinguished themselves in the fields of art, culture, social service, science and technology, judiciary, defence and sports, officials said here Tuesday.
The allotment of such plots to distinguished people would be made at concessional rates compared to the prevailing high market rates, an official said.
The allottees will have to pay only 50 percent of the current rates for these plots offered by the Haryana Urban Development Authority, the state’s realty agency, at various urban townships across Haryana.
Haryana’s Gurgaon and Panchkula towns, adjoining New Delhi and state capital Chandigarh, respectively, are the most sought after places by people to build a house. And prevailing market prices of property in both towns is quite high.
“The cabinet has decided to make preferential allotment of residential plots to the domiciles of Haryana who have distinguished themselves in various fields. It was felt that by giving such an incentive to highly distinguished persons in recognition of their outstanding achievements would motivate them and inspire others,” a government spokesman said.
“It would also enrich the social life of Haryana by offering an opportunity to such persons of rare distinction to settle in Haryana which would definitely inspire the youth of the state,” the spokesman added.
Those who would be considered for preferential allotment of residential plots would include recipients of the Bharat Ratna, Nobel Prize or Ramon Magsaysay Award, recipients of Jnanpeeth (literary) award and recipients of the Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar award for science and technology.
Other distinguished individuals would include people from Haryana who hold high public offices like the chief justice of India, and chiefs of army, air force and navy. However, only serving officials will be eligible in this category.
Winners of a medal in any sporting event in Olympics have also been included in the distinguished list.
The allottee will not be given a new plot if he already owns one or has one in the name of his spouse or dependent children in urban estates of Haryana. Plots being offered will be up to 500 square yards.
If more people apply for plots in certain places, a draw of lots will be held, the official said. The allottees under this special scheme will not be allowed to sell the plot for a period of five years.
