Tehran : Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Tuesday that the European Union should take a more proper stance on Palestine and play an active role in bringing peace and tranquility to the region.
He made the remarks at a meeting with Swedish Ambassador to Iran Magnus Vernstedt and said Iran and Sweden enjoy cordial relations that should be developed regarding the considerable potentials the two countries have.
Larijani referred to the effective role that the two sides’ parliaments play in deepening bilateral ties and said the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) supports full cooperation between Tehran and Stockholm.
Later, he mentioned the issues of terrorism and narcotic drugs as the two major crises in Afghanistan and said Iran’s policy is to help bring peace to that country and assist reconstruction and economic recovery of it.
For his part, the Swedish ambassador said his country is strongly determined to foster ties with Iran in trade, political and economic spheres.
Vernstedt added the parliamentary exchange between the two countries can play an important role in bilateral cooperation that Sweden is ready to promote it.
He also called for regional cooperation between Tehran and Stockholm.
