Shimla : Nine members of a marriage party, including a child, were killed when the private bus in which they were travelling met with an accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Una district Tuesday, police said.
They were going to Hoshiarpur in Punjab to attend a marriage.
“Nine people were killed and 22 were injured in an accident near Palian village on the Una-Hoshiarpur road this (Tuesday) morning,” Una Superintendent of Police N. Venugopal told IANS on phone.
He said the driver of the bus probably failed to negotiate a turn and the vehicle rolled down a 60-feet-deep gorge.
“Prima facie, the accident occurred due to rash and negligent driving,” he said.
Most of the victims belonged to nearby areas of Una town, 240 km from here.
In November 2008, 46 people were killed when a private bus rolled down a 200-metre deep gorge near Shimla.
