Dhaka : At least eight people were killed and dozens others injured Tuesday as a train collided with a truck in northwestern Bangladesh, the police said.
The accident occurred at around noon at the Khasiabari level crossing in Joypurhat district, some 280 km from the capital Dhaka, killing the eight victims on the spot, said inspector Noor Hossain at Joypurhat police station.
He quoted witnesses as saying that the victims were riding on the “Rocket Mail” train engine-front when the engine rammed into the truck that had reached the level crossing.
The injured were now undergoing treatment in local hospitals.
In another accident in north-eastern Habiganj district, a Dhaka-bound train from Sylhet hit a bus at an open-level crossing, killing one passenger and injuring 25 others.
