Atul Vaidya and Meghsingh Chaudhary are accused of having incited violence and being a part of the mob that attacked the housing colony in Ahmedabad on February 28, 2002 killing 38 persons including the ex-Congress MP Ehsan Jafari. Both were declared absconding in the charge sheet filed by the SIT earlier this year.

Additional police commissioner J M Sothra who is also the investigation officer of the case is reported to have said that both were the accused in Gulbarg Society massacre case and that they were absconding for a long time.

Vaidya is the former Ahmedabad city unit president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad while Chaudhary is a practicing advocate at the Ahmedabad metropolitan court.

However, they have not been so far arrested formally.

Earlier the SIT on February 8 had arrested police officer K G Erda for his negligence towards his duty during the riots in Gulbarga Society.
