Karachi : Pakistan captain Younis Khan scored his second Test double hundred to carry the hosts to 453 for four at tea against Sri Lanka on the fourth day of the first cricket Test at the National Stadium here Tuesday.
The Test is heading towards a draw with Younis unbeaten on 243 along with Faisal Iqbal who made a sedate 27 off 102 balls. Once struggling to stay afloat in the match, Pakistan Tuesday avoided the follow-on, adding 95 runs to their total in the second session without losing any wickets.
It is also the first time in Test history that both rival captains have scored double centuries in the same Test. Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene scored 240 in the first innings.
The host team though still trail Sri Lanka’s first innings total of 644-7 declared in the match that swung in Sri Lanka’s favour in the first two days.
Younis was in great form as he hit a couple of towering sixers to pull Pakistan from troubled waters. A drive off Dilhara Fernando at covers brought his double hundred.
When Younis reached 241, he broke the record for the highest individual total achieved in an innings at the National Stadium, surpassing Jayawardene’s 240.
Younis’s innings came off 451 balls and included 24 fours and two sixers.
