Registration of an FIR against the person who fired on Bhutto will expose the killer, but Pakistan wants the UN should expose the people behind the assassination, Rehman said while addressing a seminar here Wednesday.

“Benazir Bhutto was an international leader, therefore investigations were being done through the UN so that the probe could take place in a transparent manner,” she said, adding that the UN had also assured Pakistan it would initiate the investigation soon.

Bhutto, 57, was killed in a gun and bomb attack in Rawalpindi Dec 27, 2007 as she emerged from an election rally just over two months after she had returned from years of self-exile.

Rehman also alleged several forces were trying to destabilise the country, but said they would not succeed.

“Democrary had taken its roots. We will fight against terrorism with full force,” she said, and added: “Cleansing the country of terrorists is in the interest of Pakistan.”

On the problem in Balochistan and northwestern tribal regions in the country, the information minister said talks were underway with tribesmen and the government was confident that a solution would come out soon.

However, she made it clear that the government would not tolerate anyone helping or harbouring terrorists in the region.

“We don’t want war but we will not allow any one to use soil of the country for terrorism,” she underlined.
