Sydney track won’t be a raging turner, says curator

By IANS,

Sydney : Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) curator Tom Parker expects the spinner friendly track to come good for the third Test between Australia and South Africa from Saturday, but said it is unlikely to be a raging turner.

The SCG has traditionally offered good assistance for the spinners, and Parker expected the slow bowlers would gain some turn as the game progressed.

“It always spins at the SCG, day three, day four,” Parker said. “It’s not going to be a raging turner, but hopefully it’s going to be a good all-round cricket pitch.”

Parker said hot weather assisted in good preparation for the Test strip. Some showers, too, have been forecast from Friday to Monday.

“The weather has been quite good,” Parker was quoted as saying in the Australian media. “We’ve been able to put plenty of water into the whole wicket area and the pitch as well, so it’s been great for us. It should be quite a good surface, I think.”

Australia have not lost a Test at Sydney since 2003, when England triumphed at the venue.
