Lucknow : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vinay Katiyar here Thursday demanded a ban on Darul Uloom, a noted Islamic seminary in Uttar Pradesh, while referring to the Second Administrative Reforms Commission’s (SARC) report.
Pointing to the report, Katiyar told reporters: “The report, which was issued in June but not made public, noted that Mohammd Masood Azhar Alvia, now chief of Jaish-e-Mohammad, had arrived in the country January 1994 for liberating Kashmir and interacted with senior members of Darul Uloom.”
As the Darul Uloom members were in touch with Masood Azhar, the central government must impose a ban on Darul Uloom to save its citizens from terrorism, he said.
Kaityar also distributed copies of some portions of the report that read: “Masood Azhar Alvia arrived in India with the task of working out the reconciliation of the cadres of Harkat Mujahiddin and Harkar-ul-Jehad Islami whose parent organisations had merged to form Harkat-ul-Ansar. His organization’s main objective was to liberate Kashmir from India and establish Islamic rule.”
“Going by the report, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government must close the Islamic seminary. And if the report is not correct, the government should tender an apology for maligning the Islamic institution,” said Katiyar.
