Record number of coupons for Haj sacrificial animals sold

Jeddah : The Saudi Project for Utilization of Hajj Meat has set a new record in terms of the number of coupons sold during the recently ended Haj season. Pilgrims are said to have bought up to 873, 255 coupons for sheep as well as 3, 226 coupons for camels and cows. In a recent statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), President of the Islamic Development Bank Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Ali said that the process of sacrificing the sheep, camels and cows had been undertaken in the specified time-frame in accordance with the Sharia Law.

“As many as 91, 550 sheep sacrifices and an approximate number of 1, 289 camels and cows were distributed among the pilgrims and the poor, who reside in Makkah, as well as among Saudi charity societies in addition to 25 poor Islamic countries around the world.

This came in line with the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz and Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz. It’s worth mentioning that the number of the slaughtered sheep totaled 762, 422 in the Haj season of 1429.
