Mumbai : The Indian cricket board is expecting a shortfall in revenue of Rs.1.2 billion ($25 million) due to the cancellation two one-dayers against England, the tour to Pakistan and the postponement of Champions Trophy.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) working committee met here Saturday and took stock of the loss of revenue.
“The working committee noted that there would be a reduction in revenue in the current year to the effect of Rs.1,200 million, as a result of the cancellation of two ODIs against England, and the cancellation of India’s tour to Pakistan. This includes the loss of revenue arising out of the postponement of ICC Champions Trophy 2008.
“There will be a decrease in revenue, (but) the BCCI will still have a healthy excess of income over expenditure for the current year,” BCCI said in a release.
The Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in Pakistan was postponed after teams refused to travel because of safety issues. England’s last two one-dayer were cancelled as they returned home following the Mumbai attacks.
BCCI also clarified that none of the sponsors associated with it are delinquent in payments.
“No default has been committed and BCCI enjoys a healthy relationship with all sponsors,” BCCI said, dismissing media reports that sponsors have not paid money.
The working committee also decided to encourage all associations to increase the number of grounds available for junior cricket in particular the quality of wickets on which such matches will be played.
