Former Samajwadi Party minister charged with abduction

Lucknow : A former minister of the Samajwadi Party and four others have been charged with abduction of a teenaged girl in Uttar Pradesh, the police said Monday.

“An FIR (first information report) has been registered in Pratapgarh district against former minister Raja Ram Pandey and his men in the abduction case,” additional director general of police (law and order) Brij Lal told reporters Monday.

According to the police, complainant Rajkumar Singh, a resident of Antu locality in Pratapgarh district, has alleged that on the directions of Pandey his 17-year-old daughter was abducted Jan 3 from her college.

Pratapgarh district is some 150-km from Lucknow.

The girl returned home Monday after which the FIR was lodged, the police said.

The girl is a BA first year student in a degree college owned by Pandey, who was minister for khadi and gramodyog in the earlier Samajwadi Party government.

Alongwith Pandey, the FIR names four others, including the principal of the college as the accused.

But no arrest has been made. “The girl will undergo medical examination after which we will take necessary action,” said Lal.
