OIC Chief condemns Iraq bomb blasts

Jeddah : The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu condemned in the strongest possible terms the recent suicide bomb attacks which killed and wounded scores of innocent people in Baghdad. In a statement, he expressed shock and deep sorrow over the recent tragic loss of lives of civilians, especially at Al-Yousufiya on Friday and at Kadhimiya area in Baghdad on Sunday. The Secretary General termed these attacks as abhorrent criminal acts and referred to the OIC Makkah Document issued by the OIC sponsored meeting of senior Iraqi Sunni and Shiite scholars, which rejected such acts as contrary to Islamic teachings and its noble values.

He appealed to the senior Iraqi religious quarters as well as to all political parties to stand up and unify against violence, division and sectarianism within the spirit of Makkah Al Mukarramah Document. The Secretary General stated that perpetrators of such heinous acts are the enemies of Islam. In this connection, he reiterated the firm position of the OIC against terrorism in all its manifestation irrespective of their motivations or justifications.

Prof. Ihsanoglu expressed deep sympathy and sincere condolences to the bereaved families of the victims who lost their lives in these appalling and senseless attacks and prayed for the quick and early recovery of the injured.
