Bhopal : A Dalit woman was refused water from a handpump, her family beaten up by upper caste people and an infant daughter killed in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district, a police officer said Wednesday.
The incident occurred Tuesday in Bhadroni village of Shivpuri district, where caste wars are not too uncommon.
Saroj Jatav, 25, went to draw water from a handpump but was stopped by few upper caste people.
Later, as she was on her way to the police station with her husband Nawal Singh and three-month-old child Aanchal, Saroj was stopped by the same people and beaten up.
The accused also snatched the girl child and threw her on the ground, killing her on the spot, the police officer added.
A case of murder has been registered against Harivallabh, Haricharan, Makhan, Satish and Dwarika, and the police have launched a hunt for them.
