Bhubaneswar : People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has asked Air India to help its hostesses shed weight instead of sacking them.
Reacting to the termination notices served to 10 air hostesses by Air India in the last week of December for being “overweight”, Anuradha Sawhney of the PETA said India’s flagship carrier should have taken a compassionate and intelligent step.
“Go Veg – Go Slim, it’s really that simple! Meat-eaters are fatter. The only regimen that’s proved to take weight off and keep it off is a low-fat vegan diet,” Sawhney said.
“The deadly epidemic of obesity can be stopped and even reversed by switching to a vegan diet, which is the best way to lose weight and keep it off – for good,” Sawhney said in a letter sent to the chief managing director of Air India Raghu Menon Wednesday.
“Delicious vegan foods are naturally low in fat, so quantity and calorie restrictions are unnecessary. Eating vegan food helps people lose weight effortlessly and it’s good for animals too.
“We sincerely hope that your company will take this compassionate and intelligent step to help your staff to drop their excess baggage and you will not have to resort to sacking them,” Sawhney said in the letter.
