New Delhi : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the newly-constructed Asia’s largest Naval Academy at Ezhimala in Kerala’s Kannur district today.
A Navy spokesperson said here on Wednesday that the academy would be the premier officer-training establishment of the Indian Navy.
Beginning June this year, all officers inducted into the Navy under various entry schemes would undergo basic training at the academy, he said.
Having come up on an area of 2,452 acres along the north Malabar coastline, the academy included a part of the Kavvayi backwaters, where watermanship training would be conducted.
The Academy would also be conducting a B.Tech programme for all newly inducted trainees in Electronics and Communications and Mechanical Engineering, he said.
The total envisaged strength for the academy this June would be 450 trainees, but it would be gradually increased to 1,100 trainees by 2013. This would include officer trainees from the Indian Coast Guard and friendly foreign countries’ navies, he added.
