New Delhi : Delhi faced a power shortage of about 600 MegaWatt (MW) Friday due to the indefinite strike by officers of public sector oil firms that resulted in the disruption of gas supply.
The shortage has come up due to the non-operation of the 330 MW Pragati Power Plant, partial operation of the 282 MW Gas Turbine Power Station (GTPS) of Indrapratha Power Generation Company and reduction of 110 MW in Delhi’s share due to partial/non-operation of Central sector gas power plants of Dadri, Auraiya and Anta, a statement issued by the Delhi government said.
However, Delhi has been allocated around 200 MW in peak hours from Damodar Valley Corporation.
“Because of prior preparedness of Delhi to handle any shortfall in supply of power, the present load shedding is to the tune of around 300 MW only during peak periods limited to four to five hours in a day,” it said.
The current peak load of Delhi is around 3,100 MW.
“Load shedding is being carried out judiciously to ensure that it shall not exceed one hour at a time in any particular location,” the statement said.
Secretary power Friday convened a meeting of Power Procurement Group of Delhi that comprises the representatives of State Load Despatch Centre and distribution companies.
He issued directions to ensure sufficient availability of power in coming days and advised them to carry out rotational load management in extreme cases which should not exceed one hour at a stretch in any location.
