New Delhi : The Congress Friday said that Rahul Gandhi has all the qualities to become the prime minister of India as he represents the aspirations of young India.
“Rahulji possesses all the qualities to become the prime minister of India. Rahul represents young India and has attracted the younger generation towards the party,” Congress spokesperson Shakeel Ahmad told reporters here.
“But this does not mean that he will become the prime minister after this elections or the next,” he added.
Ahmad was responding to questions related to the statement of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who Thursday said that Rahul Gandhi was set to assume the office of prime minister.
“Days are not far off for Rahul Gandhi to become the Indian prime minister. Rajiv Gandhi was prime minister when he was 40 and his son Rahul Gandhi will follow in his footsteps,” Mukherjee had said during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebration in Chennai when asked why India does not have a larger number of young political leaders assuming key offices.
Ahmad, however, said that Mukherjee has not said that Gandhi would become prime minister after the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
