Two arrested for forging vehicle documents in Punjab

Mohali (Punjab) : Police here Saturday claimed to have busted an interstate gang that was forging registration certificates and other documents of vehicles.

“After a tip-off we arrested Charanjit Singh alias Channi and Sohan Singh. The duo was arrested on the Zirakpur-Patiala highway while they were travelling in an SUV towards Chandigarh,” Superintendent of Police (Detective) R.K. Bakshi said.

According to the police, Sohan Singh is an employee of the District Transport Office (DTO), Ludhiana. He was working there for the last 15 years and also runs a weekly magazine.

“The SUV in which they were travelling also bore a fake registration number which was originally issued for a scooter in Ludhiana. We have recovered fake stamps of of various departments from them,” Bakshi said.

“There is a possibility of more arrests in the coming days after the interrogation of the accused,” he added.

The accused were produced in court and have been remanded to police custody till Jan 13.
