Bahrain to donate ambulances to Gaza

By IINA,

Manama : Two Bahrain societies yesterday pledged to donate six fully-equipped ambulances to help address the urgent needs of Palestinians suffering from an acute disruption of medical services – as the death toll in the 17-day-old assault on Gaza passed 870 and the number of wounded reached 4,000. “We have agreed to use some of the funds available to purchase five ambulances and send them after equipping them appropriately to Gaza. This is the least we can do to help save people in dire need for medical assistance” Khalid Ameen, the head of charity at Al Eslah Society, said.

The society, the social network of the Islamic Menbar, the offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood in Bahrain, has already sent two consignments of medical relief to Gaza. We act according to the reports that we get about the situation in Gaza. We bought the medical needs from Egypt and introduced them into Gaza through the Rafah border crossing. The relief is transported through trucks and delivered to hospitals,” he said. A sixth ambulance will be delivered by the National Democratic Action Society (NDAS), a society that has been particularly vocal in its support for the Palestinians. “We have agreed with the Arab doctors union to buy and equip an ambulance according to the needs of our brothers in Gaza. We also agreed on taking the ambulance inside the blockaded area,” said Fouad Al Siyadi, the head of the NDAS Support Palestine Committee.
