Jammu : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Wednesday called for zero tolerance against human rights violations in the state.
He said that the authorities would have to investigate any rights violation in a transparent manner and mete out quick punishment if it was needed.
The chief minister was addressing his first meeting of the Unified Command here to review the security situation in the state.
The meeting was attended by General Officer Commanding in Chief Lt. Gen. P.C. Bhardawaj and other security and civil officials.
Abdullah said the government had formed a committee to study the vacation of government buildings, especially health and educational institutions, now housing security forces.
The chief minister said the deteriorating relations between India and Pakistan does not help Jammu and Kashmir.
“It is no secret that of all the states in the country, Jammu and Kashmir is the most affected by the direction of relations between India and Pakistan,” Abdullah said.
He said unemployment was a major source of unrest among Kashmiri youth and added that the police would soon recruit young people to raise five battalions”.
The chief minister exuded confidence that the state would have a good tourist season and the people would benefit from employment opportunities that come with it.
