“The city youths in West Bengal are getting deprived of the job opportunities in the government schemes. Thus, we want the state government to give equal importance to the urban youth, along with rural people, and also provide them with jobs,” CPI-M’s Kolkata district committee secretary and party’s state committee member Raghunath Kushari told reporters here Friday.

He said the state government should recruit more number of people in the government posts, which are now lying vacant.

“The government should ensure at least 100 days’ employment for urban youth also,” Kushari said, adding that all vacant posts in the offices of the central government and other government-undertaken enterprises must be filled up by eligible candidates.

The CPI-M district committee also issued a 19-point charter of demand Friday seeking better transportation facility, slum development in and around the state capital, expansion of Kolkata Metro Rail project and so on.

Kushari said the party would take out a rally Jan 18 and march across the city (from south to north Kolkata) with its 19-point demand.

“The district LF has also called a meeting Feb 8 at Brigade Parade ground. We will again place all our demands there,” Kushari said.
