Election Commission calls meeting with political parties

New Delhi : With an eye to the Lok Sabha polls to be held in April-May, the Election Commission has called for its first meeting with political parties Feb 3, a statement issued here said Monday.

“The Election Commission of India as part of its exercise for preparation for the general election is holding a series of reviews and consultations during the first week of February,” the statement said.

On Feb 3, the commission will hold discussions with all seven national and forty state level political parties on various issues connected with the Lok Sabha polls, it said.

The next day, they will hold a daylong review meeting with the chief electoral officers (CEOs) of all the states and union territories.

In this meeting, the issues related to electoral roll revision and the status of photo electoral roll will be taken up.

On Feb 5 and Feb 6, the commission will hold discussions with chief secretaries and directors general of police of all the states and union territories.

Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami had said earlier that the Lok Sabha elections would be conducted in April-May 2009.
