New Delhi : One of the country’s growing youth movements is trying to educate school children about their fundamental duties and re-affirm their faith in the country’s constitution post-Mumbai attacks.
Fight-Back, a movement against gender violence and terrorism, represented India at the International Youth Movements Summit in 2008, and has tied up with 39 schools across the country to spread awareness about the constitution, the Mumbai-based organisation said in a release.
The organisation is promoting awareness about the constitution, which it said is largely ignored by school children. It is urging them to become aware of their fundamental duties, rights and freedoms guaranteed by the national code of law.
“The objective is to spread awareness about Article 51A of the constitution that pertains to fundamental duties,” the Fight-Back release said.
The duties stipulate that every citizen abides by the constitution and respect its ideals and institutions, the national flag and the national anthem; cherishes and follows the noble ideals which inspired our national struggle for freedom; upholds and protects sovereignty, unity and integrity of India.
Fight-Back has also been spearheading a campaign against gender violence and has provided safety wallet cards to women, commuting alone in metros, to seek help in situations of gender crises. The cards list police helpline numbers that deal with cases of atrocities against women.
The organisation has been rallying for peace and building public opinion against 26/11 terror attacks. It was formed both as online and offline platform in January 2008 as a response to the incident of the molestation of a newly-wed woman in Mumbai on the New Year’s Eve in 2007.
