Bangalore : In small groups at upscale restaurants and pubs and in homes, around 6,000 US citizens living here raised a toast Tuesday night as Barack Hussein Obama took oath as 44th president of their country.
While it was a chilly morning ceremony at Washington DC, it was a pleasant late evening in India’s tech hub, making it a perfect setting for the Americans to clink their wine glasses to celebrate the historic moment of their country getting the first African American president.
Employees of US Commercial Service wing in Bangalore organised a small dinner party in the home of one of their colleagues where around 30 of them sat glued in front of the TV screen to catch all the action back home.
“It was an amazing feeling to witness history being made in our country, sitting so far away,” US Commercial Service specialist Leonard Roberts told IANS soon after Obama took oath.
The Bangalore Obama Fan Club, started by a group of Indian techies in August last at the height of the presidential election campaign in the US to canvas support for Obama, also celebrated his take over with a dinner party in an upscale restaurant.
