Kerala governor stresses on education on R-Day

Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala Governor R.S. Gavai Monday took the salute at an impressive Republic Day parade here Monday and stressed on improving the quality of higher education in his speech.

“Our higher education sector need quality upgradation. Our universities have to be turned into centres of excellence,” Gavai said.

The governor asked authorities to urgently come up with measures to tackle the economic crisis and pay special attention to the labour laws in the IT sector.

“The time has come to have a re-look at the labour laws, especially in the IT sector,” he said.

Gavai also congratulated scientists for the successful launch of India’s moon mission Chandrayaan-1.

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and other top political leaders of the state were present at the parade.

Similar parades was held at all the other 13 district headquarters and various cabinet ministers took the salute.

Tight security measures are in place at bus stands, railway stations and airports in major cities of Kerala since Sunday to prevent any untoward incidents, officials said.
