National seminar on minority education in India to be held at AMU

New Delhi: Aligarh Muslim University will hold a two-day national seminar on “Minority Education in India: Issues of Access, Equity and Inclusion” beginning on January 31 at its campus in Aligarh.

Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh will inaugurate the seminar while Mohammad Shafi Qureshi, Chairman, National Commission for Minorities, will preside over the inaugural function at the Kennedy Hall.

AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. P K Abdul Azis said that the aim of the national seminar is to establish a permanent linkage and a strong mutually fruitful relationship between AMU and the minority educational institutions of the country. Its focus will also be on promotion of voluntary efforts at the grassroots level minority dominated districts for educational uplift of Muslims and to formulate need oriented action plan.

Justice M S A Siddiqui, Chairman, National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions, and Maulana Syed Rabey Hasani Nadvi, President, All India Muslim Personal Law Board, are among other prominent personalities to attend the program.

Representatives of minority educational institutions, academicians and several vice chancellors will participate in the national seminar. More than two hundred delegates from all parts of the country are expected to attend seminar.

On the occasion HRD Minister Arjun Singh will also unveil the plaque of the Urdu Academy and the Diabetic and Endocrinology Centre.
