PM’s alma mater wishes him speedy recovery

Chandigarh : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s alma mater, Panjab University, Sunday wished him speedy recovery after his coronary bypass surgery in New Delhi.

The Syndicate, the highest decision-making body of the university here, passed a unanimous resolution at its meeting here Sunday, praying for the speedy recovery of the prime minister, an alumnus of the university.

The prime minister was a student of the university in the 1950s, pursuing his graduation and post-graduation. He later taught at the university campus here and rose to become a professor at a young age of 32 years.

Manmohan Singh, who has a 500-square-yard house in the upscale Sector 11 here, later moved for other national and international assignments before becoming prime minister in May 2004.

Students and staff of schools in Jalandhar and Amritsar Saturday offered prayers for the successful bypass surgery and speedy recovery of the prime minister.

Manmohan Singh, 76, is the first Sikh prime minister of the country and has family roots in Punjab. His relatives live in Amritsar and Ludhiana.
