Raipur : A 23-year-old woman cop in Chhattisgarh, who was freed unharmed by Maoists after 10 days in captivity, Tuesday said she could not believe that she was alive.
“It is hard to believe (that) I am alive,” constable Kiran Usendi said.
“The Maoists kept me all the 10 days in a thick forested location blind-folded, but I was well taken care of though it was the most horrible and terrifying experience. I was not left alone anytime… I thank God for giving me freedom,” she said.
Usendi was set free Jan 24 in the Pakhanjoor forest stretch of Bastar region’s Kanker district after the Maoists ‘jan adalat’ or people’s court found her innocent.
“Their (Maoists) public court announced me innocent and I was freed but I want to say I am not giving up my job and will fight with spirit,” she said amid rumours that she was released on the condition of leaving the job.
“I will soon return to Pakhanjoor police station where I am deployed and my fight against Maoists will go on,” Usendi said.
Media reports say she is under tremendous pressure from her parents and relatives to quit her job.
Usendi, belonging to Kanker district’s Charama area, was abducted Jan 14 when six police personnel riding motor-cycles were attacked by insurgents in the Pakhanjoor forest stretch. Two cops were killed by the rebels in the incident.
Pakhanjoor is one of the thickly forested areas of Bastar region where Maoists are running a de facto administration since 1980.
