Bangalore : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Karnataka will not allow pub culture to grow in the state, said Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa here Thursday.
“We will not allow this pub culture in the state (Karnataka) to grow,” the chief minister told the TV channels.
Talking tough against the people taking law into their hands, Yeddyurappa also said the state cabinet would discuss banning Sri Ram Sene, the self-styled moral brigade involved in an attack on a pub in Mangalore last week.
On Saturday, a group of about 40 activists of the Sri Rama Sene barged into the pub Amnesia – The Lounge on the busy Balmatta Road in the heart of Mangalore and assaulted a group of young women and men, claiming the women were “violating traditional Indian values”. The girls were punched and their hair pulled by the self-styled moral brigade.
Yeddyurappa said the government would not allow such incidents to happen again in the state.
“It is a very unfortunate incident,” he said, adding the government has taken immediate action against the attackers and “the situation is under control.”
Describing Sene as an “individual organisation”, the chief minister said the issue of banning the controversial organisation would be discussed with senior police officers and in the state cabinet.
