Chandigarh : A case of misappropriation of public money was registered here Friday against tainted police officer Saji Mohan, former zonal director of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the police said.
The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Chandigarh Police is investigating this case of embezzlement against the officer, who was arrested in Mumbai Jan 25 with 12 kilograms of heroin.
“We received a complaint from an official of NCB here that there has been a fraud of over Rs.1.36 million by the former zonal director,” an official of the EOW told IANS Friday.
“Balwinder Kumar, a superintendent of NCB here, was supposed to submit this amount in the branch of State Bank of India here on the instructions of Mohan. However, on verification, we found that no money was deposited in the bank,” the official said.
After receiving the complaint, police registered a case against Mohan and started investigations.
Balwinder Singh is presently in Mumbai, where he was summoned by the officials of Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) to assist in their inquiry following Mohan’s arrest.
