Manmohan Singh had a comfortable night and was going through an active daytime programme of exercise and physiotherapy, the official of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

“Doctors attending on the prime minister at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) plan to complete a range of pre-discharge tests Saturday and he is expected to return home soon,” the official said.

Manmohan Singh, 76, was operated upon at the AIIMS Jan 24 to remove five arterial blockages.

The prime minister has been reading newspapers, watched television and held discussions with some officers of PMO, the official added.

The prime minister’s personal physician K. Srinath Reddy told IANS: “He is fit to be discharged anytime soon.

“We are in the process of conducting a series of pre-discharge investigations for the prime minister. He is perfectly fit and a decision on his discharge from the hospital will be taken in consultation with his office and some other agencies besides doctors,” said Reddy.
