Communal clashes broke out in Udayagiri in Mysore on Thursday which claimed lives of three people. Six people were injured and are undergoing treatment in hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Tirupati(42), Mubarak(22) and Junaid Pasha(15). Tension still mounts over the death of Junaid Pasha. People accuse he was killed in police firing but police hold that he was stabbed.

Violence broke out between two groups when the carcass of a pig was reportedly found in the compound of an Arabic College which was under construction in Udayagiri. Both groups fought with each other which resulted in the death of three people and injured six. Police had to fire several rounds, burst tear gases and lathicharge to disperse the mob.

Widespread arson, looting and setting fire to houses have been reported. Rioting and stone-pelting spread to various areas around Udayagiri like KN Pura, Shantinagar and Vinayakanagar. Section 144 was imposed in Udayagiri, Lashkar, Mandi Moholla and NR Police limits. The police have also taken several trouble-makers into custody and are keeping strict vigil.
