The Rajasthan unit of All India Milli Council yesterday put demands in this respect before the state Congress. The state budget is to be presented in the Assembly this coming Wednesday.

The Milli Council has sought some major budgetary announcements for madrasa education, waqf properties, bank loans, artisanship, development of minority-dominated areas and their economy.

They have also demanded establishment of a township for artisans with the facilities of training, finance, manufacturing and marketing. About 40% of the state Muslim population is roughly categorized as artisans and 28% as unorganized laborers.

The council has urged the state government to announce a special package for madrasas to facilitate their modernization and appointment of para-teachers. Establishment of a Waqf Development Council with an initial corpus of Rs.100 crore is also on the list of the demands.

Muslims are upbeat that their tactical voting in favor of the Congress state and Parliamentary elections resulting in the formation of Congress governments both in Jaipur and New Delhi, will force the party to do something special for the largest minority in the country.
