Kabul : A suicide attack close to a key NATO base in southern Afghanistan killed two people and injured over a dozen on Monday morning. The attack was carried out near the Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan’s southern province of Kandahar, officials and witnesses told KUNA over the telephone. The airfiled, mostly used by the NATO international force, is located on the outskirts of Kandahar City, capital of the province having the same name. General Saifullah, a senior security official, said the bomber was trying to sneak into the airfield. He detonated the car when stopped at the entrance by security officias. Two people were killed and over a dozen injured in the balst, locals said. Hospital sources said they had received at least 12 injured people. The suicide attack at the base of foreign forces is the second since the launch of the anti-Taliban operation Khanjar or sword by 4,000 U.S. troops in the neighbouring province of Helmand. Two days back, Taliban exploded an explosive-laden fuel tanker at a U.S. forces base in Paktika province. Gunmen also attacked the base soon after the blast. Meanwhile, an ISAF soldier was killed in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack in southern Afghanistan. A statement from ISAF headquarters here on Monday said the attack was carried out yesterday. Name and nationality of the soldier and exact location of the attack were not disclosed.
