Kolkata: Fast moving consumer goods major ITC Ltd., which has been scouting for land in West Bengal for quite some time has expressed its discontent over not getting land so far.

“It is really frustrating. We want to do something in the state, but we are not getting land. We have also deposited money for it,” ITC chairman Y.C. Deveshwar said at a press conference Friday.

The company paid the money to West Bengal Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBIIDC). Deveshwar, however, refused to divulge the amount of money paid to WBIIDC.

The company acquired 40 acres outside the city for its food business but the deal landed in court.

Incidentally, the state in the recent past has received major industrial jolts due to land acquisition problems – in Singur and Nandigram – where the small car project by auto major Tata Motors and chemical hub project got stalled, inviting wide criticism.
