Kochi: A special team should probe the murder of the Masjid committee official in Ernakulam, said Adv A Pookunhu, state secretary of the Kerala Muslim Jamat Council. He was speaking at a press conference in Kochi.
Basheer Haji, secretary of Vattekunnam Masjid committee at Idappally in Ernakulam, was murdered by unidentified men last Thursday (July 23). He was stabbed from behind when he had just opened his shop in the morning. The men sped away immediately on a bike. The police have not yet been able to track the attackers.
More officials and scientific experts should be appointed if necessary to help the police team that is probing the case. The government should provide ample compensation to the family of the deceased, Adv Pookunhu said.
Earlier there were attacks against the imams of masjids. Now it is against masjid committee officials. Mystery reigns over the attacks on masjid officials at Kundamangalam in Kozhikode and Idappalli in Ernakulam, he added.
Office-bearers of the Jamat Council such as KM Shahul Hameed, Vattekkunnam Muslim Jamat President, EK Ummer, vice-president, Mavudi Muhammed Haji, district president and KA Hydrose, vice-president, were present at the press conference.
