“We had short spells of moderate to heavy rainfall in some parts of central Punjab in the morning. At this point of time, monsoon is in the most active position in the region and we are expecting heavy rainfall in most parts of the state in the next couple of days,” Chatar Singh Malik, director of the Meteorological Centre here, told IANS.

“This spell of rain can continue for three-four days. Due to the good rainfall on Wednesday, there was a significant dip in temperature. But as the level of rainfall subsided on Thursday, again there was a sharp rise in the mercury that was even above normal in some towns.”

“This rainfall will be quite beneficial for the paddy crop in the state,” said Malik.

The morning temperature in Chandigarh Friday was recorded at 33.4 degrees Celsius.

In Punjab, the temperature in Amritsar town was recorded at 33.6 degrees Celsius while in Patiala and Ludhiana it was 34 degrees and 32.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The temperatures in Ambala and Hisar towns were 33.6 degrees Celsius and 38.1 degrees Celsius, respectively.
