New Delhi : Two days after the release of Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, suspected to be the mastermind of the 26/11 carnage, France Thursday reminded Pakistan of its commitment to bring the Mumbai attackers to justice.
“While having noted that this is a court decision, France is following with the greatest attention the developments of the investigation on the attacks perpetrated in Mumbai,” Eric Chevallier, France’s spokesperson for the foreign and European affairs ministry, said in Paris when asked to comment on Saeed’s release.
The Lahore High Court Tuesday ordered the release of Saeed, the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) that morphed into JuD after it was banned in 2001. India suspects the LeT to be the mastermind of the Mumbai attacks that killed 170 people, including many foreigners.
“France considers that the determined commitment of the Pakistani authorities is absolutely indispensable for making progress in the investigation and prosecuting those responsible for these attacks,” he said.
“France is counting on such a commitment, the only thing capable of shedding complete light on these attacks and reinforcing the fight against terrorism,” he added.
“It is a demand that is owed above all to the victims and their families,” the spokesperson said.
France’s response comes a day after India said it was in touch with its friends in the international community to mobilize global pressure over the release of Saeed.
