Kabul : A Taliban commander and more than a dozen suspected insurgents were killed in air strikes by coalition forces in Afghanistan’s northwest Ghor province, a military statement said Wednesday.
Mullah Mustafa, the Taliban commander who was involved in activities against the government and US-led forces in the province and neighbouring areas, was killed in the attack, the statement said.
“Coalition forces observed Mustafa moving by vehicle from his compound. When he stopped in a remote area and was joined by multiple militants, coalition forces used precision aerial munitions to strike the group, killing Mustafa and as many as 16 other associated militants,” the statement said.
It noted that utmost care has been taken to ensure no civilian fall victim to the strikes.
Mustafa’s hideout was a mountainous area in Shahrak district, it added.
The Taliban, however, have not yet made any comment on the claim.
