New Delhi: The Indian government said Wednesday it would get parliament’s approval for the fiscal 2009-10 budget by July 31.
“We have no idea for going in for a second vote-on-account. We have to pass the budget by July 31,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister P.K. Bansal told reporters here.
He said the government had held talks with opposition leaders and the budget would be passed without being sent to the standing committee, as is usually the practice.
The minister added that the government had requested the president to prorogue the brief parliament session that concluded Tuesday.
The next session, expected to be convened by month-end, will see detailed discussions on the general budget, demands for grants, the Finance Bill and appropriation bills.
The Land Acquisition Bill and the Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, which had lapsed due to the dissolution of the previous Lok Sabha, are likely to be re-introduced in the house.
Speaking about the insurance and LIC bills, Bansal said economic reforms were the the government’s top priority.
