Mumbai: In an attempt to contribute towards the spread of education, Jamiat-e-Ulama Hind’s Maharashtra chapter (JUH) today distributed scholarship for education to 170 students.
Scholarships worth Rs 6, 67,194 were handed over to 170 students, four of them non-Muslims, from 1st to 12th standard, in a function held at JUM office in Nagpada.
The function was attended by Ameen Patel, chairman of Maulana Azad Minorities Financial Development Corporation, Naseem Siddiqee, chairman of Minorities Commission and MLA Basheer Musa Patel.
The newly elected general secretary of JUH Gulzar Ahmad Azmi told TwoCircles.net, ‘We have been distributing the scholarship since last year. A student whether Muslim or non-Muslim deserves it provided he has acquired good marks and is in poor economic condition. The scholarship is not paid from Zakat.’ He added that last year we distributed scholarship worth Rs 2.25 lakh.
