Muslim League to organize popular agitation against State Government

By Najiya O, TwoCircles.net,

The Muslim League will organize popular agitation against the State Government, said PK Kunhalikkutty, State General Secretary. The League will also organize agitation against the Government in the Beemapalli police firing issue, alone and in cooperation with the United Democratic Front, of which the party is an ally. Mr. Kunhalikkutty was speaking at the press conference in the League House, Calicut, after the first meeting of the Muslim League Working Committee since the general elections.

The State administration has come to a standstill since all the ministers are busy with the internal problems of the CPI (M) as well as problems within the Left Democratic Front. Common people are suffering in the State. But the CPI (M) is behind the Lavalin issue (the scam in which the party general secretary is one of the accused). In these circumstances, the League will ask the UDF to organize strong agitation against the State Government.

The party has also decided to come out strongly in the Beemapalli issue where six people were killed in police firing last 17th. “The police killed people as if they were shooting street dogs in Beemapalli. The Government should take care to control the inhuman style of the police. It was a serious lapse on the part of the rulers. The Muslim League, on its own and in cooperation with the UDF, will organize agitations in the issue,” said Mr. Kunhalikkutty. The party will present the matter seriously in the next UDF meeting.

When asked about the Popular Front of India, the general secretary said, “Popular Front is not in our alliance. They supported the UDF in 18 constituencies for their own reasons. Once the election is over, that has come to an end. We have differences of opinion with the Popular Front in ideological matters. We will continue with our own ideals.”

He added that the victory of the League in the general elections proves the acceptance for the party’s policy in the state and the country. Minority politics stood with the party in the elections. Had the minorities went after the Third Front, the BJP would have come to power. People accepted the alliance of the Congress which followed the secular line, he said.

ET Muhammed Basheer, State Secretary, said that the CPI (M) move to create an alternative force to the League in the State has failed in the Lok Sabha elections. Mr. Basheer is the party’s MP from the hot seat of Ponnani, the constituency which triggered a lot of problems within the CPI (M) and the LDF during the elections.

Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal, national Secretary Abdussamad Samadani, Secretary Dr. MK Muneer, KPA Majeed and KNA Qader were also present at the press conference.

State President Syed Muhammed Shihab Thangal and Malappuram District President Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal chaired the meeting on the first and second day, respectively, in the two-day session.
