Police officer killed in gunbattle with Maoists

Bhubaneswar : A police officer was killed Monday in a gunbattle with Maoist rebels in Orissa’s Sambalpur district, police said.

The gunbattle which started in a forest under Kishinda police station, some 300 km from here, Monday morning stretched late into Monday evening, police added.

Local sources said the casualties could be more but Director General of Police M.M. Praharaj said only one police officer was killed in the gunbattle.

“We have lost one police officer,” Praharaj said.
