“The instability in Iran is a source of concern for Iraq, just as the instability of Iraq was a source of concern for Iran,” Hoshyar Zebari told the al-Jazeera news channel.

“The security of the states in the region is interdependent. We respect the will of the Iranian people and the Iranian political system. We are not in a position to judge the choices they produce.”

After Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani was the second leader to cable Tehran with congratulations for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad when the Iranian interior ministry announced Ahmedinejad’s re-election in the June 12 polls.
