New Delhi : An interstate wrestling champion, who allegedly worked as a sharpshooter for the notorious Krishan Pehlwan gang, was arrested here Sunday for his alleged involvement in a number of murder cases in Punjab and Haryana, police said.
Rakesh Kumar alias Raka, a 22-year-old former interstate champion in the 84 kg freestyle wrestling, was wanted in several murder cases.
Police said Raka was arrested on tip-off that a sharpshooter of the gang run by Krishan Phelwan — who is cooling his heels in a Rajasthan jail — would be coming to meet one of his accomplices at PVR Saket in south Delhi around 11 a.m.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said Raka was wanted in two murders cases.
Raka, son of a village headman, recently appeared for his final year college examination, police said.
