Pakistan MPs fete cricketers, hope for win in terror war too

Islamabad : Pakistan’s National Assembly, the lower house of parliament, Monday paid rich tributes to the country’s cricket team for winning the second edition of the World Twenty20 and hoped the nation would succeed in a similar manner in the ongoing war on terror.

The house adopted a unanimous resolution moved by Privatization Minister Naveed Qamar, which said: “The National Assembly congratulates the national team and the whole nation on winning the event.”

Speaker Fehmida Mirza, in her remarks, said the team had made the nation proud by bringing it great honour.

Members unanimously favoured the resolution and congratulated the team, hoping that the nation would succeed in the ongoing war on terror in a similar manner, Online news agency reported.

At the start of the session, Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi said the whole nation was proud over the victory and hoped for success in the war against terrorism and extremism.

Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the finals of the World Twenty20 at London’s Lord’s cricket ground Sunday.
